Three Plays – Two Nights

Three Plays – Two Nights

Second Thoughts, Phoenix Players and Stratford Playwrights are all taking part in the Lighthorne Festival of One Act Plays in early June. The three Stratford-based groups have got together to present two nights of exciting new drama just before the competition. The three entries are all brand-new one act plays.

Stratford Playwrights will present THE AGE OF ASPARAGUS – by Steve Farr. Steve is an experienced playwright and says of his play “It is a thoughtful jet-black comedy that questions the nature of death, the linear-ness of time and the reality of reality” The cast features Steve and his son, playing a father and son. Steve is well-known in Stratford as a writer, director and playwright. His Sparrows in a Hat, was presented by Second Thoughts in August 2015.

Phoenix Players premiere a new play by a new writer: WHAT IS ‘NORMAL’ is Katie Cherry’s first play. Bella wakes up back where she always care she would – a psychiatric hospital. We meet her therapist, who asked her to consider the events that may have led to her relapse. We see how different characters react to this, and are shown that friendship can have a big impact on someone’s life. Katie, a primary school teacher, wrote this play from her own experiences – she suffers with anxiety and it can affect her life a great deal. She wrote it to open people’s eyes to the world of mental health, and encourage others to talk about it more freely.

Second Thoughts play is WHISKING EGGS by Jackie Lines. Jackie has been writing all her life, but this is the first play she has had performed by an amateur theatre group. Miss Behave, a menopausal dominatrix, unexpectedly finds that her new lodger is the Vicar’s wife who does not believe in God. Linda is having imaginary conversations and the eccentric and outrageous Lady CS is threatening to reveal all. A hilarious fast paced comedy with mild adult references.

The three plays will be presented in a single evening at Ilmington Village Hall on Friday 1 June and at Tiddington Community Centre on Saturday 2nd June. Because of the adult nature of some of the scripts, they are not recommended for under 14s.
